About Shakespeare House B&B

Nathan and Liz owners of Shakespeare House B&B

Shakespeare House B&B is Te Anau’s longest running Bed and Breakfast, probably because it’s only 100 metres from Lake Te Anau and a short ten-minute stroll to Te Anau’s shops and restaurants. It’s close enough from town to be convenient, but far enough away to not pick up on lots of pesky noise at night.

Shakespeare House B&B gets its name from previous owners, but now draws from the great wordsmith; William Shakespeare. Each room is named after a play or line from one of his great plays and brings a little of the delight of Shakespearian prose into the everyday.

‘I rather would entreat thy company; to see the wonders of the world abroad,

Than, living dully sluggardized at home,

Wear out thy youth with shapeless idleness.’

- William Shakespeare

Shakespeare House B&B offers a complimentary continental breakfast and has cooked options available, served in the dining room each morning. Guests can book tours through Shakespeare House. Nathan and Liz are happy to give advice on the best tours and attractions to suit any budget and can recommend things a little off the beaten track.

Shakespeare House B&B is a great location for exploring all that Fiordland National Park has to offer. You could be doing one of the great walks such as the Milford Track, Routeburn and Kepler Track. Te Anau, Manapouri and the road to Milford Sound all offer short walks from 30 minutes to 3-6 hours. Shakespeare House B&B is a good base for a day trip to Milford Sound and is close to Lake Manapouri and Doubtful Sound. There’s just so many great activities in the area, from glow-worm caves to jet boating, to bird watching and helicopter flights; there’s something for everyone. Have a look at our ‘Local Attractions’ page or just ask your hosts; Nathan and Liz.
